Newark Our MFA Program is very much identified with Newark, an exciting Renaissance city in which all worlds meet. Take a tour and view video from The Once And Future Newark, the new documentary hosted by R-N scholar and historian Clement Alexander Price. Meet Cory Booker, Newark's visionary new mayor, whose brother Cary Booker, heads R-N's Educational Opportunity Fund, a program that supports promising local high school students in their transition to Rutgers. Read Newark native Queen Latifah's take on the city. Discover the low cost of good living in Newark. View a sample of Newark's amazing cultural institutions, including the Newark Museum and Newark Public Library, urban gems located just two blocks from campus. Get a sense of thriving art galleries such as Aljira, a Center for Contemporary Art, the City Without Walls Gallery, and R-N's own Robeson Gallery, where we hold many of the readings in our MFA Reading Series. Newark is also home to the New Jersey Historical Society, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. Mix 27, Savoy Grill, Fornos of Spain, Iberia Peninsula, Spain Restaurant, and Mompou are just a few of our favorite restaurants. Our campus is in easy reach via Amtrak, NJ TRANSIT, or PATH train, to Newark Penn Station. Take the 2-car, clean and silent City Subway to Washington Street stop and enter campus under the red Rutgers-Newark arch featured on our website. For those of you flying in, we're a short train ride from Newark Liberty International Airport. |
